Favorite Fort Hunt Neighborhoods
Along Fort Hunt road one will find high-rise condo's, to gorgeous brick garden-apartments, townhouses, cottages, treehouse residences, single-family houses and large manors. It's hard to give an newcomer a full appreciation of what's found in this area, but herein we highlight a few of your many choices. For a graphic representation of the area, check out our maps.
River Towers
River Towers is a condominium community near the Potomac River, the Metro and shopping, but surrounded by 26 acres of parklands. Most units are resident owners but there are studio, 1, 2 and 3 bedroom rentals here as well.
New Alexandria
New Alexandria is a peaceful community on the banks of the Potomac River just outside Old Town Alexandria VA. Perfectly situated between parks and country clubs in an environment sheltered from the traffic and hassles of Northern Virginia, Belle View is close to everything the Nation's Capitol has to offer. There are garden-style apartments and condo's for rent in Belle View. The Belle View Shopping Center has most of the communities daily needs at the ready.
Bucknell Manor
Bucknell Manor is a community of townhouses and single family homes at the north end of Fort Hunt Road. This area was built in the 1950's and features Cape Cods and traditional duplexes. Although the homes were built as starter homes, many of them have been expanded and some have been knocked down to make room for larger homes. Because the surrounding area was built up forty to fifty years ago, all necessary community amenities are fully developed.
Belle Haven
Belle Haven is among the National Capitol Region's most prestigious luxurious neighborhoods. Here, one will find luxury homes, manors, houses and a smattering of cottages and town houses that are perfectly situated between parks and country clubs in an environment sheltered from the traffic and hassles of Northern Virginia. Belle Haven is close to everything the Nation's Capitol has to offer.
Hollin Hills
Hollin Hills is a unique development along Fort Hunt Road, and perhaps in the country. Hollin Hills has about 450 houses designed by Charles Goodman and developed by Robert Davenport. The homes feature flat-roofs, floor-to-ceiling windows and a unique, boxy architecture. The large expanses of glass, sleek lines, and unusual siting has earned Hollin Hills national recognition from the early fifties to the present.
Hollindale
Hollindale and Hollin Hall homes are typically brick cottages on flat lots and quiet streets. These homes were originally built as cute brick ramblers but many have been replaced or added on so the neighborhood varies somewhat. The Hollin Hall Shopping Center is a hidden from the outside world, but a treasured resource for the Fort Hunt community.
Villamay, Westgrove & Marlan Forest
Luxury ramblers (or split levels) with oversized proportions and intriguing design touches are the predominant home here between the George Washington Parkway & Fort Hunt Road. Many have excellent river views. This neighborhood lacks a small measure of the prestige of Belle Haven, but the amenities & luxury here are second to none.
Arcturus
In the subtle pecking order of Fort Hunt Road, it's difficult to find the exact positioning for Arcturus, because this community runs perpendicular to the River. Along the banks of the Potomac and GW Parkway one will find estates that will rival anything in the world. But as you progress inland many of the homes are more modest. No matter where you find yourself in the forested enclave the neighborhood is peaceful and beautiful.
Waynewood
Waynewood, suburban America at its finest, is a community of moderately priced (for this area) homes on meandering streets. Situated on a part of what was George Washington's estate at Mount Vernon, Waynewood characterizes the realization of the American dream. You won't find the manors of Belle Haven here, or the glass of Hollin Hills, or the views of River Towers & Villamay, but you will find ample lawns, sturdy homes and good clean-living.
Stratford
The last stop down Fort Hunt Road might be its most impressive. Estate homes with river views, water exposure docks are found at Stratford Landing and Stratford on the Potomac.

The purpose of this page is to acquaint buyers and renters with the area surrounding Fort Hunt Road and to apprise the reader of the unique amenites afforded by living in this community. Much is what is found herein is based upon the opinions of area real estate professional, Will Nesbitt. "The statements found herein are my own and reflect my experiences in Northern Virginia and describe why I think that this is among the most desirable residential areas in Northern Virginia and the Greater National Capitol Region.

"I have owned or own condo's, townhouses and houses throughout Northern Virginia (and suburban Maryland) for the past twenty years. I was born in Fairfax (city) but raised (mostly) out in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. I was always enamored with the area near Fort Hunt between Mount Vernon and Alexandria because it reminded me of the best of the Old Dominion.

"Or to put it another way, this area reminds me of Virginia of the Shenandoah Valley. It reminds of Fairfax and Winchester and Harrisonburg or Charlottesville. It's a place where squirrels are plentiful. It's a place where the local bandits are racoons who try to raid your garbage. It's near the Potomac River and Belle Haven Marina.

"Last year, I found a baby possum feigning death in my recycle bin. Last week, I came home around midnight and found a four-point buck standing my driveway. As the young deer galloped away into the night, I looked out over the sparkling lights of the Capitol and counted myself fortunate to live here."

This community is a place conceived and built long before the explosion of cul-de-sacs, strip malls and endless subdivisions that feed the world's largest parking lot (AKA Northern Virginia traffic).

One might guess from the description above, that this bucolic retreat is only found far from the city, but in fact, Fort Hunt Road ties in to the busiest roads, most prosperous employment centers and largest urban areas in the nation.

A glance at the map will show that much of the area is 4 to 5 miles from DC, Georgetown, Tyson's Corner, Vienna, Rosslyn, Mclean and Fall Church. Fort Hunt Road and George Washington Parkway feed directly into Old Town. Much more importantly, in this area is served by well-established roads that are not overrun with traffic. What this means is that you're not only close to everything, your journey takes less time and involves less stress than most commutes in Northern Virginia.

Although your residence is quiet and peaceful here, the area is amply served by upscale and downscale shops. On one side the community is bounded by big box stores and warehouse restaurants. On the other side the community is bounded by upscale specialty boutiques and fine dining. You can find more choices or a better shopping and service selection anywhere in Northern Virginia.

A Wealth of Choices

In this area renters and buyers can find a wide variety of homes to suit their needs. Everything is here, from high-rise condo's, to brick garden-apartments, to townhouses, to cottages, to single-family houses and large manors.

"If your confused about the differences between Belle Haven and Belle View if you don't know Fort Hunt from Fort Washington, feel free to contact me. It's my job to serve your real estate needs and I welcome the opportunity to be of service. My money is invested in this community; my family is rooted in this community and I believe in this community in my heart." — Will Nesbitt
