“The statements found herein are my own and reflect my experiences in Northern Virginia and describe why I think that this is among the most desirable residential areas in Northern Virginia and the Greater National Capitol Region.

“I have owned or own condo’s, townhouses and houses throughout Northern Virginia (and suburban Maryland) for the past twenty years. I was born in Fairfax (city) but raised (mostly) out in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. I was always enamored with the area near Fort Hunt between Mount Vernon and Alexandria because it reminded me of the best of the Old Dominion.

“Or to put it another way, this area reminds me of Virginia of the Shenandoah Valley. It reminds of Fairfax and Winchester and Harrisonburg or Charlottesville. It’s a place where squirrels are plentiful. It’s a place where the local bandits are raccoons who try to raid your garbage. It’s near the Potomac River and Belle Haven Marina.

    Belle Haven

Belle Haven is one of the most pleasant, prestigious and perfectly situated neighborhoods in all of Northern Virginia.

“Last year, I found a baby possum feigning death in my recycle bin. Last week, I came home around midnight and found a four-point buck standing my driveway. As the young deer galloped away into the night, I looked out over the sparkling lights of the Capitol and counted myself fortunate to live here.”

This community is a place conceived and built long before the explosion of cul-de-sacs, strip malls and endless subdivisions that feed the world’s largest parking lot (AKA Northern Virginia traffic).

One might guess from the description above, that this bucolic retreat is only found far from the city, but in fact, Fort Hunt Road ties in to the busiest roads, most prosperous employment centers and largest urban areas in the nation.

    Olde Bel Haven Towne

There are several clusters of townhouses in the community. They are generally well-maintained, quality construction and nicely appointed.

A glance at the map will show that much of the area is 4 to 5 miles from DC, Georgetown, Tyson’s Corner, Vienna, Rosslyn, Mclean and Fall Church. Fort Hunt Road and George Washington Parkway feed directly into Old Town. Much more importantly, in this area is served by well-established roads that are not overrun with traffic. What this means is that you’re not only close to everything, your journey takes less time and involves less stress than most commutes in Northern Virginia.

Although your residence is quiet and peaceful here, the area is amply served by upscale and downscale shops. On one side the community is bounded by big box stores and warehouse restaurants. On the other side the community is bounded by upscale specialty boutiques and fine dining. You can find more choices or a better shopping and service selection anywhere in Northern Virginia.
